Story
Get to Know Dr. Watson
Dr. Brittany Watson is a board-certified family physician passionate about uplifting communities by supporting the healthcare workforce, increasing access to affordable healthcare, and improving the quality of care for all. She grew up in rural South Carolina. Dr. Watson’s interest in healthcare started early. As a child, she helped her mother care for her grandmother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and suffered multiple strokes. Since then, she has worked to serve communities and understand healthcare from various perspectives. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Clemson University and earned her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed a residency in family medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, where she was chief resident during her final year.

Dr. Watson is a former National Health Service Corps scholar and served at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Rock Hill, SC. She was a 2022-2023 Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Minority Health Policy at Harvard University and graduate of the Master of Public Health program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with a concentration in health policy.

Dr. Watson recognizes the importance of mentorship and service. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and has volunteered with the Sorority’s youth programs since 2012. She is a member of the Pipeline Committee for the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Watson also serves on the board of Shelter Health Services in Charlotte, NC.

In recent years, Dr. Watson has started working to raise awareness in minoritized communities about kidney disease, transplant, and organ donation with her partner Tajze, who is living with end-stage renal disease and awaiting a kidney transplant.

Dr. Watson enjoys group exercise activities, spending time with family and friends, travelling, reading, photography, and binge-watching TV shows on streaming platforms.
